Main Idea and Some Extra Craziness, Too!

We have been busy busy bees in our classroom! The days have been flying by, and it feels like I run out of time ALL the time! I never seem to make it through all of my lesson plans. Here is a glimpse at what we have been up to:

We made Main Idea Trees from Amy Lemon's

This packet is AWESOME and so worth the money for the CUTE activities! We made this tree together (this is pre-detail stage), and then they made their own tree from a book they read out of their book box.

We also did the hamburger activity for main idea.

A big part of these past few weeks has been TESTING! We have had to attend several trainings, and use a few sub days to test our kiddos. I had to share this funny moment from one of my sub days. I was testing kids in the library and quickly realized I left my water bottle on my desk. I walked back to my room and couldn't find it. I'm looking everywhere when my sub stops to tell me that one of my girls brought me a flower...then I found my water bottle...
Haha...my sub had stuck the flower in my water bottle! Too funny:) I didn't mind too much because the flower was such a sweet gift!

I began making our timeline in the hallway. I saw this on Pinterest and thought it was such a great idea! I took pictures throughout the month of September of anchor charts, activities, projects, etc. I think it will be fun to look back at an entire year of activities! (The pictures are printed smaller than I would like, but I just don't have time to fix that right now!)

We have been talking a lot about what writers write. We have moved on to punctuation, and I refuse to stop until everyone can end a sentence with a period! haha.

I changed one of my bulletin boards in my classroom. I decided to use it for the activities/objectives we were doing throughout the week. I have L.O.V.E.D. it! If they don't finish a project, I have a place to put the example/sample so they can reference it until they are done. It's amazing to have the vocabulary posters on the wall to reference all week.

In the middle of all this craziness, I planned a surprise 30th birthday party for my husband! It was a "Dirty Thirty" mustache theme party, and it was a blast. EVERYONE was so into it, and it was hilarious watching everyone walk around in their mustaches. Here is just a random picture I took.

We have been working on predictions this past week, and I'm ALMOST through with my predictions packet. It's been a lot of fun and I can't wait to share it with you! Hopefully it will be finished this weekend. Talk to you guys later!!

Thanks for allowing free downloading on the Fiction and Non-Fiction posters. This will be perfect for K-5 kids at my new school!
